AlN crystals are ideal substrates for GaN, AlGaN, and AlN epitaxial materials. Compared to sapphire or SiC substrates, AlN offers better thermal matching and chemical compatibility with GaN, resulting in lower stress between the substrate and the epitaxial layer. As a GaN epitaxial substrate, AlN crystals can significantly reduce defect density in devices, improve device performance, and hold great promise for high-temperature, high-frequency, and high-power electronic devices. Additionally, using AlN crystals as substrates for high-aluminum-content AlGaN epitaxial materials can effectively lower defect density in the nitride epitaxial layers, greatly enhancing the performance and lifespan of nitride semiconductor devices. High-quality AlGaN-based ultraviolet detectors have already been successfully applied. Aluminum nitride can also be used in the sintering of structural ceramics, where AlN ceramics exhibit excellent mechanical properties, including higher bending strength than Al2O3 and BeO ceramics, as well as high hardness, temperature resistance, and corrosion resistance. Due to its heat and corrosion resistance, AlN ceramics can be used to produce crucibles, Al evaporation dishes, and other high-temperature, corrosion-resistant components. Furthermore, pure AlN ceramics are colorless, transparent crystals with excellent optical properties, making them suitable for use as high-temperature infrared windows and heat-resistant coatings for electronic optical device equipment.
